Foxes, or vulpes vulpes, are carnivorous.
Please take a good look at our friend to the left. Courtesy of The Imperial Collection of Audobon Animals, this illustration...illustrates...the viciousnes of the hunter trap. Yes, the red fox is baring his teeth in a rabid snarl. You would be too if your achilles heel was locked in the grip of a metal vice.
There are over 25 species and subspecies of known foxes in the world.
The Red Fox is easily the most recognized, and the protagonist in many fables and myths.
Most notably as the Fox in the Little Prince.
Since the author experienced a plane crash in the Sahara, it is possible that Antoine de Saint Exupery based The Fox on the easily domesticated Fennec Fox native to the region.
Fennec foxes (vulpes zerda) are like gatito/dog hybrids...
Because of their gatito/dog qualities, Fennec Foxes are the only foxes that are mellow enough to be kept as pets, although I don't know if they should. There are many Fennec pets throughout the world. Hopefully, their homes have big yards, chintzy fences, and are located near wide open spaces.
